This was the most advanced laser system when it was introduced. All other YAG lasers for posterior capsulotomy were designed to compete with this system.  

The design of the optics plate allows for easy service at a very low cost. Almost every other laser sold today has no user serviceable parts inside.  The entire laser engine has to be replaced on the newer systems at a cost of $7,000 to $10,000!   With the ALCON YAG 2500 LE Series, cleaning and minor alignments are all that are necessary to keep the system working for years of uninterrupted service.
